Last year, in the U11’s campaign we finished in an encouraging 5th place in F Division. After a restructuring of the league we were promoted up to E division.
During the summer of last year, 5 players left the club including our player of the year and top scorer. However, after a successful tried period, we managed to sign 4 good players to more than fill the gaps.
This season the boys have performed way beyond my expectations, finishing in a credible 4th place, just outside the promotion places, and in a higher league. In summary, we played 20 games, won 11, drew 4 and lost only 5.
For most of the 2nd half of the season we were hovering around 2nd and 3rd place in the league and looking good for promotion. It was only our indifferent form during September/October that probably denied us at least 3rd spot.
We’ve had some great results this season, but the one game that really sticks out in my mind was our final game against champions and cup winners Hoyland Town Magpies. We needed to win to have any chance of promotion, and although we fought hard and gave them a real scare, we finally succumbed to a 4-2 defeat.
Just remember, under 12’s is still very young and not the finished article. Keep practicing and you will all turn out to be great players. I am very proud of you.
